As we all know, holiday gatherings will undoubtedly look different this season. Following the COVID-19 health guidelines, the winter holidays will be void of the traditional parties packed with friends and family. For some, this is a missed opportunity, and for others, a sigh of relief. For many college-bound high school students, this could be just the holiday they were hoping for; they no longer have to endure the rapid-fire about admission, their college list, and their future. Today, we’re back with Dr. Denise Pope to hear how students should go about the college admissions process during this pandemic holiday season.

Denise Pope, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer at Stanford University Graduate School of Education, where she specializes in student engagement and curriculum studies. As the Co-Founder of Stanford Challenge Success, she strives to provide communities with the tools needed to help students lead a healthy and balanced life. In addition to leading Challenge Success, Dr. Pope is the author of “Doing School” and is the lead author of “Overloaded and Underprepared”. Dr. Pope lectures nationally on parenting techniques and pedagogical strategies to increase student health, engagement with learning, and integrity. Today she talks about how students and parents can work together to make learning online SUCCESSFUL.

The cause behind this organization is that the overemphasis on grades and other mere numerical values pressurizes students to engage in the rat race of success, so, at Challenge Success, we want to create change among our community to raise awareness about what truly matters in life: happiness. Our mission is to encourage our community members to embrace the broader definition of success and promote students' well-being and engagement with learning. By collecting FUSD students' opinions via a survey, we feature them in a documentary-style video and publish it throughout the district to create ongoing awareness and promote our mission.
